Additional Considerations
-
Please note that I cannot work with children/ youth who have a Langley address due to a conflict of interest/ non-compete agreement with an employer of mine. I remain able to work with children & youth from outside of Langley.
Who Am I & What Do I Offer?
Mindfully parenting, partnering, or being a person who has been significantly impacted by trauma(s), mental illness, addiction and disrupted attachments can be one of the most challenging roles anyone could imagine. For example:
-
Parents love their children so much, and children love their parents – and they want to feel love and express love and there is a criss-cross of connections – full of incorrect assumptions like, “I am not loved, they don’t see me.”
-
If you have a child, teen, partner, or family member who is struggling with mental wellness, it can be like you’re feeling everything they feel and leave you feeling overwhelmed, stuck, exhausted, frustrated, trapped, resentful, conflicted, confused, and even depressed or angry.
-
If you have a neurodivergent child/ teen/ family member (ie. ADHD, Autism, LDs, giftedness, etc.), you might have additional struggles of your own along similar lines, or even feel like you are failing them or like you are constantly in a battle when you just want them to be ok and to feel connected.
-
If you yourself are young person with concerns about your own ability to cope and thrive, particularly if you grew up with a parent or sibling who is struggling with their own wellness, you might feel overly responsible, stretched, stressed, and conflicted about your role or how to help yourself or your people.
And there’s no handbook that tells you how to mindfully engage with yourself and your people successfully in an affirmative way amidst the onslaught and chaos of daily life or how to heal.
Through my practice I have seen time and time again parents, children, and siblings who [deeply] love each other, yet are feeling unheard, disconnected and sometimes even unloved. The miscommunication, misunderstanding and unmet needs interfere in the relationship’s ability to grow, evolve, and nurture. But, you are capable of transformation. I can help you learn mindful, holistic, trauma-informed approaches that can be some of the most powerful ways of healing. I have seen the benefits in my own life as well as for my clients. Cultivating inner peace and acceptance as the core of mental and emotional wellness makes people better people, for themselves, and others. My interest (and passion) lies in supporting the relationships between you, yourself, and your loved ones, in a way that promotes healing, understanding and growth for everyone. An offshoot of this interest is a focus in supporting parents in their own journey of mental wellness and healing so they can deepen their capacities and show up to their relationship with their children/teens from a place of curiosity, compassion, and deepened self-awareness.
I’m Adriana, a Registered Clinical Counsellor with over 15 years of mental health experience largely specializing in child, youth & family mental health. I bring knowledge, compassion, and guidance to assist you on your journey of healing, growth and well-being. I work with adolescents and adults who desire movement towards healing, inner peace, and well-being. This can mean learning to work with the very stress, anxiety and pain that is causing you discomfort. I believe you already have the strength and wisdom to heal that which is causing you to suffer. Working with me gives you a safe space to learn evidence-informed ways to cultivate self-awareness and tap into your own inner wisdom to find meaning and healing. I can help you be the best version of you so you can be the best version for them.
Outside of clinical counselling, I am a mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) teacher, have a strong personal practice of mindfulness and meditation, and enjoy participating in silent retreats and engaging in experiential learning to deepen my personal insights. I am blessed in the sense that my personal interests in psychology and Eastern wisdom melds whole heartedly into my professional practice. I am also blessed in that I am a mother of two young children and have a supportive husband.
I am available during the day on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays for in person or virtual sessions. I look forward to connecting with you.
